How Public Diplomacy Enhancing Trusts in Ethio-Egyptian Relations?  In Referencing to the mutual Utilization of the Nile Water

Abstract

 

The main purpose of this article is to understand how public diplomacy enhancing trusts in Ethio-Egyptian relations in referencing to the mutual utilization of the Nile water. The researcher has employed pure qualitative methods and the data are mainly obtained from secondary sources. The researcher has also used unstructured interviews that are obtained from purposely selected key informants.  Basically, the issue of the Nile water has often been a major sticking point in Ethio-Egyptian relationship and the major challenge is that the prevalent of suspicions and mistrusts between the two countries on mutual utilization of the Nile water. In this regard, currently the role of public diplomacy is a critical position in the realization of country’s interests. For clarity purposes, the article includes an overview of public diplomacy, the issue of Nile water, public diplomacy experiences in Ethio-Egyptian relations and related concepts of public diplomacy to understand how public diplomacy enhancing trusts in the two countries relations towards the Nile water.  Therefore, the conclusion is that the strapping implementation of public diplomacy tools such as listening (two ways communications), advocacy (honest advocating) cultural exchange (music, art and others), citizen exchange (diasporas), and international broadcasting system (television…etc.) are the main alternative solution tools that enhancing trusts in Ethio-Egyptian relations on the mutual utilization of the Nile water. Following this conclusion, the study suggests that Ethiopia and Egypt should be implemented public diplomacy tools vigilantly and continuously to enhancing trusts between the two countries relationships on the Nile water utilizations.
