Adoption and Compliance of Research Grants Policies among Library Schools in Federal Universities in Northern Nigeria

Abstract |
This study examines the adoption and compliance of research grants policies among Library Schools in federal universities in Northern Nigeria. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through questionnaires (n = 180), interviews with research administrators, and document analysis. Findings indicate that while awareness of research grants policies is high (84%), formal adoption by Library Schools is moderate (62%), and compliance particularly in financial reporting and ethical protocols is uneven. Key factors influencing adoption and compliance include institutional support, training, and bureaucratic bottlenecks. The study recommends standardizing policies, establishing research support offices, enhancing capacity-building programs, and implementing monitoring mechanisms to improve research governance. The findings are relevant for federal universities, policy makers, and Library Schools aiming to strengthen research productivity, accountability, and academic excellence.
