Abstract

Soil fertility depletion is one of the major limiting factors for cereal crop yield reduction. As a result, inorganic fertilizers are commonly supplied tothe crop. However, continuous and sole use of inorganic fertilizers may lead to deterioration in soil chemical and physical properties. In addition, the price of inorganic fertilizers is increasing and becoming unaffordable for resource-poor smallholder farmers. On the other hand, the country has a high population of livestock and farmyard manure, considerable amounts of organic materials. Hence a review was conducted to assess the impact of different organic fertilizers like compost, farm yard manure, green manure, crop residue and biogas slurry application in field and smallholder farming without upsetting their usual living. The results revealed that application of different organic fertilizers combined with inorganic indicated a significant effect on different cereal crop productivity in many parts of the country than sole application of organic and inorganic fertilizers. Therefore this revised seminar visualized us for the future as country level promoting of organic fertilizers in well-organized form is very important to enhance cereal crop productivity and there quality by improving soil and soil fertility issues.
