Abstract |
Abstract: Hearing loss significantly affects language development, academic achievement, and psychosocial well-being, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria where early detection and intervention services are limited. This study examines psycho-educational diagnosis and assessment as a critical foundation for effective intervention among persons with hearing loss. The paper adopts a descriptive survey research design, targeting special educators, audiologists, and speech-language therapists. It explores how comprehensive assessment enhances individualized intervention planning, educational placement, and rehabilitation outcomes. Findings from reviewed literature indicate that early and multidisciplinary assessment significantly improves communication skills, academic performance, and social integration. The study recommends strengthening diagnostic services, implementing universal newborn hearing screening, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in Nigeria.
Key Words: Psycho-educational assessment, hearing loss, intervention, Nigeria, special education.
